Shailna & Anish

Studio Clutter is the creative partnership of Shailna Wadhwa and Anish Cherian, both architects by training, who discovered their passion for making during their time at design school. With access to a basic woodshed on campus, they began exploring woodworking, a craft that would become central to their artistic journey. In 2018, they took the leap to establish their own studio, navigating the challenges of selecting the right materials, tools, and vendors—all within a limited budget and with little guidance. Through perseverance, learning, and a willingness to embrace mistakes, they refined their skills and grew their practice.

n 2021, they expanded their mission by starting to teach carpentry, with the hope of reviving traditional wood crafting and making it accessible to people in their homes. Shailna and Anish believe that anyone can learn to craft, breaking the barrier that woodworking knowledge must be passed down through generations. Their dream is to empower others to embrace the art of woodworking, ensuring it becomes a shared skill for all.

At Studio Clutter, our work is deeply rooted in the exploration of diverse handcrafting techniques in wood, spanning from intricate artworks to bespoke furniture. Our creative process is a dialogue with nature, where each piece reflects a tactile relationship between artist and material. Influenced by the memory of places, birds, and animals, our work aims to evoke a sense of wonder and connection to the natural world.
