Duration: 7 sessions, a total of 60 hours

Class timings: 10 am to 6 pm on all days with 45-minute lunch and tea break

 

Dates: This course happens over a period of 4 weekends (7 sessions), new batch commences on 6th January 2024.

January batch dates - 6th -7th, 13th -14th, 20th - 21st Jan and 27th Jan (Sat - Sun from 6th - 27th Jan)

Location: This course will take place at our Kilpauk Studio in Chennai. Located here. 

 

Group size: Maximum 5

 

Frequency: 4 times a year (new batch every Jan, Apr, July and Oct)

 

What you will learn: Chairmaking is considered to be the holy grail of woodworking. Chairs can be the most challenging and rewarding form of furniture and we'll help you build your own. Whether you are an absolute beginner or someone who has been dabbling in basic carpentry and wants to pick up advanced skills, you will successfully build a solid Teak Wood chair under our guidance in this course. In this 6-day course, we will share our knowledge of design processes, comfort, structure, and construction methods. Techniques taught include wood selection, joinery design, working with templates and jigs, finishing, and oiling. The material will be procured for you from our local sawmill and if you want you may accompany us when we place an order for a first hand experience of buying Teak.

You will take with you a solid Teak Wood chair built using Japanese-style Mortise and Tenon joinery.

​

Day 1: Introduction to woodworking, material selection, and practice on Pine Wood

​

Day 2: Shaping back and front legs using Tapering Jig and Templates.

​

Day 3: Measuring and marking all the M & T joints, cutting of tenons

​

Day 4, 5, and 6: Making of joints ending with sanding on day 6

​

Day 7: Assembling the chair and oiling

 

 

Who can Join: Anybody above 20 years and interested in learning this craft is welcome to join. No prior experience is necessary, we teach from scratch and will help you build it.  

 

Course fee: 

INR 25,000 per head, including all material and tool use.

Payment:

To book your spot, we take 50% of the total fee, i.e INR 12,500. The remaining 50% payment is to be made anytime 2 weeks prior to the commencement date of your course. 

​

For eg: If the course starts on 6th Jan, the remaining payment must be made by the 20th Dec. If we don't receive the remaining payment on time, we will cancel your slot, with no refund.

​

After the due date - To book your slot, we take the full payment for any new registrations.

​

Cancellation policy: If you cancel before 25th Nov, we will offer you a full refund. Any cancellations after that will result in forfeiting your advance
