At Studio Clutter, we teach a range of hands-on skills centred around wood. Our primary medium is wood, explored through three core practices: carpentry, carving and whittling.

Carpentry

Carpentry is the shaping, cutting and joining of wood to create functional objects. Our woodworking courses introduce you to the fundamentals of working with solid wood, from understanding the material and using hand tools to designing and building your own objects. We offer both 2-day and 7-day courses for those looking to explore woodworking at different levels of depth.

Carving

Our carving courses focus on low-relief carving, where carving gouges are used to cut into the surface of wood and create patterns, textures and forms. You’ll learn how to handle carving tools and understand the techniques needed to bring detail and depth to a flat piece of wood.

Whittling

Whittling is the practice of shaping wood with a knife, often to create small figures and forms. Our whittling classes introduce you to the safe and controlled use of a carving knife, along with the techniques, wood knowledge and skills needed to continue whittling independently.
