Kurinji in Bloom Kurinji is a wooden botanical artwork built around the delicate form of the Kurinji flower.
The background is made from pieces of teak arranged into a radiating wood mosaic, creating a geometric pattern that runs across the surface. The flowers, leaves and stems are carved into the wood and filled with coloured powder resin.
The purple tones of the kurinji sit within the carved forms, with the translucent quality of the resin allowing some of the depth and texture of the carving to remain visible. The colour changes subtly with the light, giving the flowers a sense of depth without completely covering the wood beneath.
The organic shapes of the flowers are set against the more structured mosaic pattern of the background. The contrast between the two is an important part of the piece, with the natural grain of the teak adding its own variation to the composition.

Handmade product
Each piece in the Malar collection is made by hand, from arranging the individual pieces of the wood mosaic to carving the flowers and filling them with resin. Small variations in the grain, carving, colour and resin are a natural part of the process.
