Learn the basics of whittling in a small, hands-on class designed for complete beginners.
Whittling is the art of shaping wood using a simple carving knife. In this 4-hour guided session, you’ll learn how to safely and confidently use a whittling knife, understand how different cuts work, and use them to shape and carve wood.
We’ll cover the fundamentals of knife handling, different carving techniques, choosing the right wood, understanding suitable sizes and grain, and tips that will help you continue whittling on your own. You’ll practise these techniques throughout the class while working towards a small carved figure that you can take home.
Everything you need for the class is provided, including the wood and whittling knives. At the end of the session, you’ll have the basics to continue exploring whittling as a simple, low-investment hobby at home.
