What you will learn: Both of us learned by doing and know the importance of starting small and simple. There are many ways to make solid builds that need not always begin with hand tools or joinery. 
 
This course is useful for everyone who wants to make projects and get an experience of what it is to DIY, the good old Do It Yourself. This course is jam-packed, and intensive, and emphasizes on object making 'WITHOUT' the use of joinery. We look at wood as a material, use of hand and power tools, joining hardware, design, and visualization of an object from a reference picture, and step by step method of building an object from scratch. Basically we teach you how to give life to your Pinterest dreams without breaking into a sweat. 
At the end of the class, we will be handing out a resource list to help you set up your own small workshop and practice further. 
After this course you will be able to: 
  • Plan a woodworking project.
     

  • Understand various hardware available in the market including by not limited to screws, nuts and bolts, wood inserts, D nuts etc, and pocket-hole joinery. Their specs and right usage. 
     

  • Calculate quantity and be able to buy your material
     

  • Layout & divide the project into components. Prepare a cut list. 
     

  • Understand manual and power tools and use them for construction.
    Manual tools introduced: Saws
    Power tools introduced: Circular Saw, Jigsaw, Trim Router, Drill Machine, Table and Mitre saw

     

  • Visualizing the building of an object from a reference picture. 
     

  • Sanding: What to do by hand, what to do by machine, and which abrasives/machines to buy.
     

  • Project assembly: What to glue, how much glue to use, and how to remove the glue.
     

  • Finish your project with appropriate finishing materials. Learn about the right steps and materials to stain, paint or just protect your work. 


    You will receive a tools & stationary equipment buyers guide which includes vendor details and brand/model recommendations. Purchasing the best equipment that will give you the biggest bang for your buck. We also include vendors for purchasing wood in this guide. 

Suggested projects: Stools, Nightstands, lamps, shelves, organizers, planters, etc. that the participant must choose from the design below. Minor changes in the given design are possible. These are curated keeping a beginner skill level into consideration. 

 

 

Who can Join: Anybody above 16 years and interested in learning this craft is welcome to join. Especially useful for design and architecture students and professionals. No prior experience is necessary, we teach from scratch. participants under 16 are welcome too but need to be accompanied by a parent. 

Workshop fee: 

 

  • INR 9,000 per head (only for Chennai), including material and training for the 2-day event. You take what you make.

On the day of the workshop: Please reach the location a few minutes before 10 am. We begin on time with a theory session giving a lot of information that you don't wanna miss. Wear comfortable clothing and closed-toed shoes. Lunch is to be brought by the participants, or you can place an order via Swiggy or Zomato.

Cancellation policy:

We do not offer a refund upon cancellation, however, due to some reason if you cannot make it, you may join us for a session on another date or transfer your seat to another individual. Your spot is valid for a period of 3 months (we conduct at least one session every month and you can choose from these sessions).
